South Sound Section

+Complete Section Listing

The South Sound Section is part of the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association. Our members are professional planners from State Government, Local Government, and Private Industry who help build healthy and sustainable communities.

The formation of the Section was driven by a group of Thurston County professional planners who wanted opportunities for continuing education, community interaction and networking closer to where we work and live in Thurston County.  The Washington Chapter APA Board formally formed the South Sound Section in June of 2016 and appointed the inaugural officers.  The South Sound Section geographical boundary is Thurston County.

The purpose of the South Sound Section is to provide a platform to:

  • Promote ongoing professional education and awareness of planning and community issues by convening conferences, workshops, and discussion groups;
  • Advocate proactive planning for issues of local and regional importance
  • Encourage opportunities for networking and social gatherings within the region to improve professional communications
  • Be actively involved in community service and coordinate with governmental entities, allied professions and other planning/environmentally concerned groups; and
  • Provide input to city, county or regional governmental entities on planning issues of unique interest to South Sound Section membership.

As the South Sound Section grows and matures to we are going to look to the participation of our membership as key to meeting our purpose. Your participation in the Section board meetings, committees, and events will ensure that the Section remains relevant to serving us.
