WSP is currently initiating a search for an OUTREACH SPECIALIST/LAND USE PLANNER for our Vancouver, Washington or our Hood River, Oregon office.

WSP has an immediate need for a skilled mid-level planning and outreach professional to provide services in developing solutions and documentation for land use regulatory projects, and to coordinate and deliver quality public and agency outreach efforts. The successful candidate will have practical expertise and applied knowledge of Oregon and Washington land use law, design, plan and policy development, code review, and permitting for a variety of projects, including environmental and/or transportation projects (federal, state, and local infrastructure). Specific experience with National Environmental Policy Act and Washington State Environmental Policy act compliance, local and state land use permits, and other applicable state and federal permitting requirements preferred. Public involvement is a key element of this position, which will serve as a member of the strategic planning and communications team. The successful candidate should understand public involvement process, strategies, and techniques and enjoy working with a variety of stakeholders and providing clients with public outreach processes, including public meetings, stakeholder interviews, large and small group facilitation, and developing communication tools.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in urban planning, communications, journalism, or applicable science discipline; MS degree preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in professional land use planning and public engagement role, including preparing compliance documents for projects
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to self-manage are essential
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post graduate experience preferred in a fast-paced consulting environment
