The City currently has the following Assistant Planner positions to fill through this posting:one full time, benefited, and ongoing positionone full time, benefited temporary position, funded through December 31, 2022

Hours of Work - Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Job Duties:

  • Primarily provides day-to-day customer service for the Planning Division through front counter meetings, email, and by telephone regarding the City’s development regulations and policies.
  • Conducts technical review of single-family and other minor residential and commercial building permits and processes minor administrative development applications for compliance with City regulations.
  • Reviews applications for completeness and calculates and receipts fees.
  • Supports Code Enforcement, including code analysis and site visits.
  • Works with other department members in collaborative problem solving and completion of tasks.
  • Performs research tasks as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • General knowledge of planning and/or zoning, including knowledge of land use codes and ability to analyze code provisions.
  • Proven experience in providing excellent customer service.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Moderate computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet experience.
  • Ability to perform site visits.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License by date of hire or the ability to secure a reasonable transportation accommodation to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in planning or related field is desirable.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities

  • Job includes extensive customer contact at the counter and on the telephone, as well as desk work.
  • May involve attendance at meetings in City Hall or occasionally off-site and before or after normal working hours.
  • Reports and correspondence are typically prepared at the computer terminal.
  • Frequent site visits to building sites or vacant properties can occasionally involve rugged and dirty conditions.
