The Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA WA) invites you to the 2024 Annual Planning Conference. This year's conference will be held at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington on October 16–18. The theme of the 2024 APA WA Conference is Renewing the Plans: Embracing Innovation & Resiliency.

The conference will provide the opportunity to share and network with your professional planning colleagues from around the state (and beyond) to share ideas in these changing times.

The Short Course on Local Planning

Short Course | Wednesday, October 16 | 6:00 - 8:00 PM

The Short Course on Local Planning is an overview for planning commissioners, interested residents, those new to Washington State, and those interested in local leadership positions. The class includes:

An overview of the complex mix of land use planning laws that work together to support land-use decision-making in Washington state
An introduction to comprehensive planning and plan implementation under the Growth Management Act
A review of the roles in planning and best practices for public participation
Mandatory training on the Open Public Meetings Act for local government officials, and an introduction to the Public Records Act.

*All courses are offered at no charge and are open to the public.

On the heels of the popularity of last year’s breakfast session at the 2023 Spokane conference, we’re once again inviting planners to propose fun, educational, and thought-provoking shortstories to tell their peers. This is your opportunity to share big ideas about the planning world in a short presentation, and in a highly visual way.
