Job Description:

The Planning and Development Services (PDS) Division is recruiting for a Principal Planner in the Current Planning Section. The Principal Planner is responsible for recommending and implementing policies and procedures for processing land development case files, establishing schedules for completion of land development projects, processing applications, as well as analyzing and reporting on operations and activities. This position will have direct supervision of five or more professional planning staff members, be responsible for prioritizing and delegating work assignments, reviewing staff's work, and have budget oversight for the entire section of approximately 20 professionals. This role will also play an integral role in communicating with the development community, County Administrative Office, LUT Director, PDS Manager, as well as other departments and divisions.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Education and Experience:

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field.

AND seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning or regional transportation planning, city or community planning, or related areas, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management capacity.

OR Master's degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, geography, architecture, community development, economics, environmental studies or a related field.

AND five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in land use planning and development, community design planning or regional, transportation planning, city or community planning, or related areas, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

If you have completed education in a foreign college or university and are using this education to meet the minimum qualifications, you must provide documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received within the United States' accredited college or university system or your application will not be accepted.
