Employer: Metro Job Description: Position Summary: The Senior Transportation Planner performs highly skilled professional transportation planning and development work involving a variety of the agency's most critical and complex transportation planning and analysis projects. A Senior Transportation Planner is part of Metro's Planning and Development Department team and has complex assignments in policy formulation and project management and they are recognized as technical specialists in a specific program or functional area. Their assignments have visibility and impact across the region and involve engagement with policymakers representing Metro, local city and county governments and state officials. Exceptional writing and speaking skills are required for this position, as this person will have extensive work with the general public, other public agencies, and Metro committees. Exceptional project management skills are also required in order for this person to work independently and effectively lead a project team. Job Duties: General Assignments: Long-Range Transit Planning - This person serves as lead for implementing the 2018 Regional Transit Strategy through local transportation plans and regional investment area studies; serves as transit planning lead in Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) updates; serves as project manager for periodic updates to Regional Transit Strategy; serves as Metro's lead on long-term, regional transit planning with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) in the implementation of ODOT's Transit Plan. Planning Liaison to Transit Districts - This person serves as long-range transit planning liaison to TriMet, SMART, and C-Tran for topics related to systemwide transit planning and service planning consistency with the Regional Transit Strategy. Local Government Liaison - This person serves as liaison to Multnomah County transportation planning program, including participation in the East Multnomah County Transportation Committee (EMCTC) and its technical advisory committee. Special Planning Projects – This person leads highly complex, multi-agency and multi-partner planning projects as assigned. The projects may come from the needs identified in the 2018 RTP, or as needed by Metro Council and the leadership in Planning and Development department, and generally follow these topics and themes:
