Join the Transportation Division of Public Works as a Transportation Program Coordinator and help Kirkland take its efforts to encourage people to use alternatives to driving alone, to the next level!

The Transportation Program Coordinator is responsible for the effective planning and implementation of an exciting array of assigned transportation programs, including King County Metro Kirkland-Kenmore Community Van, Kirkland Green Trip, Safer Routes to School Action Plans and Cross Kirkland Corridor. Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, will work closely with community organizations and businesses, user groups, other local governments or agencies, regional committees, and City staff to accomplish planning, scheduling, logistical, and implementation tasks. Serves as a liaison with the community on behalf of the City and the department and serves as the primary point of contact for assigned transportation programs.

Hours of Work 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, and occasional evening and weekend community events/meetings.

Job Duties:

Principal Accountabilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, analyzes, and implements new or continuing transportation programs reports on status and progress identifies and helps address pertinent issues.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of program budgets may assist in applying for, monitoring of, and reporting about grants.
  • Communicates effectively and accurately with a variety of audiences and ensures timely resolution of internal and external customer issues.
  • May work on the City’s behalf with consultants or vendors selected by the City.
  • May recruit, train, and evaluate program volunteers assist with motivating volunteers and helping to recognize their service to the community.
  • Essential FunctionsAssists in the development, recommendation, and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepares requested and required reports.
  • Researches, develops, and/or refines programs and services to meet community needs and program area objectives listens to feedback and makes corrections where needed to ensure quality, safety, and customer service.
  • Monitors the day-to-day operations of assigned programs, which may include making site visits, handling and resolving complaints, ensuring that the required materials and supplies are available, and driving Metro Community Vans between sites and to regular maintenance.
  • As assigned, provides support to the City Council, advisory boards, committees, commissions, and neighborhood organizations, including the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports.
  • Develops or assists in developing effective promotional and public relations materials about assigned programs, including flyers, presentations, brochures, website updates, emails, letters, and memos.
  • Collaborates and maintains strong working relationship with other city departments and outside agencies and partners. Assists with customer service and record keeping.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, business administration, or related field plus two (2) years of relevant, responsible work experience.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience managing or supporting a transportation program in an urban setting.
  • Master’s degree in planning, transportation, engineering, business, or related field.
