Job Description: The Building Inspector/Plans Examiner II is a technical position that is responsible for reviewing building plans and building inspection services within the Department of Community Development. This position conducts building plan reviews, conducts inspections of construction projects, makes technical determinations of building code compliance, and assures that building review procedures and rules are revised as appropriate. Duties include providing back-up to front-counter reception and information. Frequent interaction is required with permit applicants, contractors, architects, DCD and other City departments and the general public.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills: 
A bachelor’s degree in building construction or closely related field and two years of experience is desired. An associate degree in building technology, construction or related field and three years of work experience in plan checking and construction inspection may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. A valid Washington State driver’s license is required (or ability to obtain within 30 days). Full certification is required at time of hire including ICC certification as a Plan Examiner, Building Inspector, Plumbing, Mechanical Inspector and Fire Inspector.
