Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire Accepting Applications - September 29 DEADLINE

The Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW) program works with communities to reduce wildfire risk within the wildland-urban interface through improved land use planning. We have worked with 18 communities since 2015, and are now accepting applications from eligible communities for 2018.

What do selected communities receive?

  • Free, customized planning recommendations and tools over the course of one year. (Implementation of recommendations is voluntary and under the authority of the local jurisdiction.)
  • Site visits and support from CPAW’s multi-disciplinary team of land use planners, foresters, risk modelers, and researchers.
  • Training, peer-to-peer networking, and research to help reduce risk in the wildland-urban interface.

Who can apply?

  • Eligible communities include U.S. cities, towns, or counties that have authority over local land use and zoning decisions.
  • Applications must be submitted jointly by the community planning and fire departments.
  • Communities should be willing to commit staff time and enter into a Memorandum of Understanding. Assistance comes at no cost to the community.

For more information on how to apply, download the program flyer or visit planningforwildfire.org The deadline for submissions is September 29, 2017.
