The City of Walla Walla is seeking its next Director of Development Services who will plan, organize, direct, advise and evaluate the activities of the Development Services Department.

Job Duties:

This position reports to the City Manager and leads a department of eight employees that processes all permits, inspections, land-use applications and long-range planning activities. The director will prepare and update developmental short- and long-range strategic plans; contribute to the City’s overall strategic plan; and identify and recommend policy options to the Planning Commission and City Council.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, geography or a closely related field
  • Five or more years of experience in municipal planning and/or community development, three or more years of which has been in a leadership role and supervisory capacity
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential elements of the job such as those listed above
  • Valid Washington state driver's license

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in urban planning of a municipality of 15,000 population or greater
  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)Bilingual in English and Spanish

Supplemental Information:

Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $104,751 - $127,442 and is dependent upon qualifications. The City offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package, which includes medical, dental and vision health insurance; life/AD&D; vacation; 14 paid holidays including floating holidays; sick leave; and two retirement plan options including the Washington State Public Employees Retirement Plan and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
