Cedar River Watershed Education Center Hosts Spring WaterFest, June 19

2010 Annual Event Celebrates the Magic of Water

Bring the whole family for this free day of hands-on water discovery while exploring the connections between watersheds, salmon, electricity, drinking water, and you.

Seattle Public Utilities invites you to join us for a family-friendly event in the Cedar River Watershed celebrating water on Saturday June 19th from 10:00-4:00. This splashy fun day will be filled with activities for everyone.

Kids of all ages will be captivated by waterfall tours, natural crafts, forest fire engine demos, games, prizes and much more. Adults will enjoy free water-saving devices, conservation booths, natural lawn care and composting tips, as well as information about water and energy-saving appliances.

We will also be offering free 45-minute Waterfall tours into the protected watershed for spectacular views of Seattle’s pristine water supply. Both children and parents will enjoy this rare opportunity to see your drinking water in its mountain home. Waterfall Van Tours will be offered at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30 1:30 and 2:30.

Additional activities will include:

  • 10:30 am Native Plant Garden Walk
  • 11:00 pm Wildland Fire Team- Fire engine demo (kids will love this)
  • 12:00 noon Sustainable Center Design Building tour
  • 1:00 pm Water Conservation Demo for your home and garden

 

If you’ve never been to the Cedar River Watershed, now is your chance to experience this award winning Center. The Watershed’s Education Center is a gathering place that connects visitors to the magic of water. Rain drums and illuminated root wads welcome you as you approach; native plantings, recycled building materials, and green sod roofs illustrate Seattle Public Utilities’ commitment to “building green.”

DIRECTIONS: From I-90 going East Take Exit 32 (436th Ave.) Turn right at the end of the off-ramp. Follow the road (436th Ave. SE, Cedar Falls Rd. SE) for about 2.5 miles to Rattlesnake Lake. Continue with the Lake on your right side until you reach the Cedar River Watershed Education Center.
