May 12 - 13, 2011 Spokane Convention Center
The cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties (brownfields) is key to community economic development efforts. This day and a half conference will focus on community revitalization, redeveloping brownfield sites, and approaches specific to inland northwest communities through workshops, interactive breakouts, and plenary sessions.
PURPOSE: Bring a network of public and private sector project proponents together for an open dialogue on community revitalization resources, efforts, and plans in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Scholarships will be available to local government officials, tribal representatives, and students.
Deadline for Quality Growth Alliance’s Recognition Program is February 15

The Quality Growth Alliance (QGA) is accepting applications for its Recognition Program through Tuesday Feb. 15. Entries will be accepted for pre-entitlement development projects in King, Snohomish, Pierce and Kitsap Counties. Recognized projects will receive a wide range of support from QGA members, including testimony during the public review process. Planning Law Conference Call for Sessions

For the first time, the Puget Sound Section of the Washington State Chapter of the American Planning Association has placed a Call for Sessions for the 2011 Planning Law Conference. We are seeking presenters with new perspectives and information to share with our membership. The conference will be scheduled for April and a formal invitation with more detail will be forthcoming.

2010 Conference Includes Free Regional Short Course

The Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association is hosting a Regional Short Course on Local Planning as part of their 2010 conference, “Resurgent Washington”. One of only twenty Short Courses being offered this year, the course is being offered in coordination with the Department of Commerce and the Planning Association of Washington, and it is open to conference attendees and non-attendees alike. The basic Short Course has been scheduled as a pre-conference session on Monday, October 4, 2010 from 1:30 – 4:30 PM at the Three Rivers Convention Center at 7016, Grandridge Boulevard in Kennewick, WA.

Changes at Shockey/Brent, Inc.

Shockey/Brent, Inc. announces that Reid Shockey has acquired full interest in the firm. As of September 16 it becomes the Shockey Planning Group, Inc., providing a full range of planning services as it has since 1980. Former Vice President Laura Brent has left the firm to pursue other interests. The Shockey Planning Group maintains its offices in downtown Everett.
Proposed Bylaw Amendments

This year, the Chapter Board is proposing a few bylaw amendments. The amendments clarify language related to electronic notification, balloting, and terms of office; composition of the Nominating Committee; and clarifies deadlines for the nomination and election process. These amendments will be considered and voted upon at our Annual Meeting, October 6, 2010 at 11:45 am at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. With the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, Seattle is poised to reclaim its Central Waterfront and reconnect our city to Elliott Bay. The City is now in the process of selecting a design and engineering team to engage the public in developing a dynamic and forward-looking design for the waterfront. As the fi rst step, a range of local, national and international designers have submitted qualifi cations.
Washington Invasive Species Council seeks your input on proposed legislation

The Washington Invasive Species Council is soliciting comments from stakeholders on two draft pieces of legislation it is considering proposing. The first bill seeks to extend the Council, which currently is scheduled to sunset on December 30, 2011. The second bill proposes to establish an invasive species emergency response fund that would enable rapid response and eradication of new invasive species infestations.
