The Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation (IBPI) would like to make you aware of a unique professional development opportunity.
We are offering a 1.5-day Trail Design course from October 30-31, 2014 at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. This is a highly interactive course that includes classroom presentations and field tours, on bicycle, of some of the biggest trail challenges and best solutions in Portland. Professionals who are engaged in planning, designing or advocating for bicycle and pedestrian networks at the community or regional level are invited to attend.
Participants are encouraged to bring examples of trail challenges they are currently facing in their communities. Those who are tackling trail gaps, difficult crossings, or challenging connections to the on-street network can draw on the expertise of course instructors from Alta Planning + Design as we work as a group to examine issues, find precedents, and sketch out potential solutions.

The course will provide approximately 9 hours of training which equals 9 CMs (AICP) or 9 PDHs.

Please help us spread the word to your interested colleagues at the WA APA by creating an event post or including in an upcoming newsletter, and let me know if there is a more appropriate person for me to contact about future professional development opportunities.

If you're willing to tweet about this course, please feel free to use the following text:

At the 2014 Annual Chapter Conference in Spokane, President Ivan Miller will present the Barbara Grace Award to a mid-level planner who has distinguished herself or himself with dedication to public service and professional accomplishment. These are the front-line, unsung planners in our agencies and firms who help "Make Great Communities Happen" and represent the future leadership of our profession.

Opportunity to Support Gabe's Family

Friends of the Snedekers have started a fundraiser for Sara and Ava to help with any unforseen costs that should arise since Gabe's passing. Gabe took great care of his family which I am sure is no surprise to anyone that knew him. This fundraiser is to focus on the costs that Sara will have over the next 2 years as she finishes her teaching degree and cares for their daughter. The site is www.gofundme.com/cimu7o.
