Community planning is the integration of the disciplines of architecture, economic development, environmental planning, historic preservation, infrastructure, landscape architecture, downtown revitalization, transportation, and urban design to help people shape the built and social environments of their cities, towns, communities, and neighborhoods. Community planning strives to help people create safer, stronger, more vibrant and more sustainable places to live and work.
Some community planning services performed by CPAT include:
- Visioning. Facilitating a process using aids and tools that help communities see what reaching or implementing their future goals and policies might look like. The visioning process often leads communities to further develop their goals and objectives for the future.
- Education. Holding workshops, testifying at hearings, and speaking at other public events to inform local groups and officials about challenges and opportunities confronting their neighborhoods.
- Research. Collecting data and generate reports, presentations, and maps to document neighborhood needs.
- Plan development. Providing recommendations for action and support advocacy efforts to advance them.
