Tri-Cities Livable Sustainable Communities Forum

Location: Three Rivers Convention Center, Kennewick, Washington
Cost: $25 per person (includes a.m. coffee, lunch and p.m. beverage service)
Who Should Attend: All professionals influencing the development decisions.
How to Register: Go to the APA WA Conference Registration Page and follow the instructions. Registration for this forum is in conjunction with APA Washington’s Conference. You may attend this forum in addition to the APA Washington Conference or by itself.
Forum Summary: This forum follows the APA Washington’s 2010 Conference. You do not need to attend the conference to attend. Programming will include presentations on the relationships of sustainability with human health, land use, economic development, transportation and technology development.
Forum Purpose & Content: The purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness among developers, policy-makers, planners and all related professionals about sustainable development practice and how it benefits human health and economic development for communities. The workshop will include regionally and internationally recognized speakers.
The keynote address will be from Avi Friedman, Ph.D, Professor, McGill University and Director, Affordable Housing Program. Dr. Friedman teaches architecture at McGill University in Montreal and has a doctorate from the University of Montreal. He has authored books and several peer reviewed research articles. Dr. Friedman’s research interests focus on factors, which influence the design and implementation of affordable and sustainable building practices at the unit and community levels, including market acceptance, construction, and resource efficiency. He is recognized worldwide for his work and his efforts. He has received several professional awards. His biographical sketch can be viewed at www.mcgill.ca/architecture/faculty/friedman.
Organizing Group: Community leaders and business owners proactive in sustainable and orderly growth are organizing this forum. The organizing committee includes representatives from several regional agencies such as the Benton-Franklin Council of Governments, Ben Franklin Transit and Benton-Franklin Community Health Alliance.
Forum Background: This is a continuation of the 2004 Livable Communities workshop organized by the same Tri-Cities group.
