Job Description:

The City of Maple Valley seeks to hire a full time Associate Planner. Under the general supervision of the Community Development Manager, this position:

  • Performs professional planning work in the areas of current and long-range planning, environmental review, design review, research, and policy development
  • Works both independently and in teams
  • Acting as one of the City's initial contacts with the public, the Associate Planner must be generally knowledgeable about development regulations, building permit requirements, land use and major development project status, and will serve as the primary backup to the Permit Center front counter
  • Manages the City's permit tracking software and is the City's primary user, coordinating closely with the IT department regarding any software support needs
  • Attends to land use issues that are frequently politically sensitive in nature and that require considerable tact, diplomacy, and accuracy in their management The successful candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design, or related discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years relevant professional level experience in the public sector or three (3) years relevant professional level experience in the private sector
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the individual's knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the essential job functions

This is an FLSA exempt position, Salary Range: $60,647 - $75,759 DOE + competitive benefits. Position Open Until filled, First Review of Applications will be on October 13, 2017.
